Well, yesterday was a bit of a shock! After we settled down on Tuesday afternoon, we had more rain, particularly overnight, but when we got up on Wednesday morning it was sleeting and then developed into snow! Needless to say, we stayed where we were, and pitied the poor boaters who either had to move, or chose to move. We have an easy schedule as we have until April 19th to be at Stoke on Trent in order to catch a train to Sheffield the next day to see daughter number 2, Kathryn, in her Gilbert & Sulliavan show. No hurry then!

Atherstone Top Lock |
At least this morning, whilst dawning grey and cold, was at least dry. We had a great run down the locks helped initially by the lockkeeper, but then by 9 boats passed as we descended the flight of 11 locks. Saved us quite a bit of gate work! We were pleasantly surprised to pass our friends Steve & Linda below lock 7, not on their boat 'Water Haven' but on a boat they were moving for brokerage from Audlem to Stowe Hill. Didn't expect to see them here as we had only waved goodbye to them as we passed Stowe Hill last Friday!
Once at the foot of the flight we pulled into the sanitary station at Bradley Green. There was just enough room for us to squeeze in, in front of two other boats. One was "just waiting to pick up our passengers" and the other one seemed to be permanently moored! Just as well there was room for us as otherwise, words might have been said. Why couldn't he wait for his passengers on the towpath side for heaven's sake? As for the permanently moored boat ......... words fail me.
After completing our jobs, we cruised past Grendon dry-dock where 'Jaguar' was tied up, to just beyond Bridge 50 where we called it a day in time for lunch. This is a lovely quiet mooring we have used on several occasions before. One of those occasions was on this exact day in 2008. When we awoke the next morning, the boat was covered in snow. Wonder if that will happen again!?
